Childhood explorations with her father and uncle along the bleak north yorkshire coast and later shared with her own children have evolved over time and the habit of high tide line foraging remains a major source of pleasure and inspiration.

Encouraged by their response she launched her european ceramics gallery in north yorkshire in 1993. Maggie s collection of ceramics acquired during the time spent travelling between the uk and europe was eventually shown privately to a group of interested collectors and was enthusiastically received. Maggie barnes work represents a personal response to a life long interest in marine life fossils and skeletal remains. Alongside family life and rearing three sons i studied ceramics as a mature student graduated as a distinction licentiate in the late 70s this leading eventually to acceptance as a full member of the society of designer craftsmen five years later.
