Using hessian for rug making is a neat way to be zero waste in your crafts.
Make rag rug using hessian.
Stitched and secured on each edge to make rag rugging a doddle.
I see how you just braid the material and then put it in a circle to sew i think i can do this much better.
The main difference is in the designs colours and fabrics that are used.
It s part of a sack but if you can t get hold of sacks you can buy it by the metre from craft shops etc.
Make them as long as you can but any length will do and they don t alll have to be the same length.
So now i m going to try a braided rug.
The hessian decided how big you want to make your rug and mark it out in chalk then cut your hessian 4 5 inches bigger as we need to allow room for hemming fraying.
Nowadays rag rug making remains largely unchanged as we still only use a few basic tools hessian and fabric.
This is the hessian i am using for this rug.
Cutting your fabric we need to cut our material into small pieces an idea size is about 4cm 1 5 by 7 5cm 3.
Cut your chosen fabrics into strips about 2 cm wide or so for this one.
Thanks for the tutorial.
